But Munster scored 15 points in the final 12 minutes to run out 24-14 victors, moving into second in the RabDirect PRO12 table and ruining Charteris' return from wrist surgery, the lock playing the full 80 minutes.
And the 28-year-old Charteris insists his side have no one to blame but themselves after they saw victory snatched away from their grasp in the dying embers of the game.
"We put ourselves in a good position in the second-half and really should have pushed on and got the win," he said.
"It is just disappointing at the end of the day that we didn't put in a bad performance but just came away with nothing for it.
"I thought we were quite clinical and we had our chances. We got down there and got the points but I think just a little bit of naivety maybe towards the end.
"In the last 20 minutes we didn't kill the game off, we didn't keep the ball when we should have and didn't go through enough phases and a team like Munster if you make a couple of mistakes and they pounce on them."
