For Edinburgh the woes continue and Michael Bradley's men have now not won in the RaboDirect PRO12 since December and only once away from Murrayfield all season.
But things are going from strength to strength for the Dragons, who have now won two of their last three RaboDirect PRO12 matches and head into next week's clash with bottom-placed Aironi.
The victory did pull the Dragons up the table and into tenth place, leapfrogging Connacht, but Tovey believes it should have been more.
"It was a tough game and you could see that Edinburgh battle very hard and we struggled to get much clean ball bit when we did we scored a couple of tries," he said.
"It is a bit of a shame we didn't get the bonus point. We said at half-time that we weren't resting on our laurels and thinking we had already won it.
"And so after the game there was a fair bit of disappointment in the dressing room about he second half performance."
Tovey isn't the only one leaving the Dragons at the end of the season and the latest to announce his departure, Brew, was celebrating his 100th appearance for the region.
But Tovey dispelled any myths of outgoing players not giving their all, claiming a place in Europe is still within the realms of possibility.
"You speak to everyone who is leaving and they all want to give their hearts for this club and we're doing everything we can to get this team into Europe," he added.
"You can see from what they're doing on the pitch that they are giving everything and hopefully we can make it."
