Poole has not played for the Gwent region since suffering ruptured right knee ligaments at Treviso way back in October 2011.
The 26-year-old looked set for a return at the start of the campaign only to damage his other knee when turning out for Bedwas in pre-season leading to another 11-week hiatus.
However having come through unscathed in yet more Premiership colours - with Newport against Neath and Bedwas - last month Poole is ready to go and insists he's itching to get back into action.
With South African flyer Tonderai Chavhanga enjoying a weekend off Poole told the South Wales Argus: "I feel physically strong and I am enjoying being back out there again.
"I am still a little bit off the pace and my timing isn't quite there but the important thing is to get my match fitness, then the rest of my game will come together.
"It's been great to be on the pitch again and it was great to play in a really tough game on Friday -
Bedwas are a top team (the Bridge Field outfit won 30-9) so that was perfect apart from the result.
"It's done me the world of good and my aim is to now get back with the Dragons. It will be a big step up but one I am looking forward to."
