But following scans it has been confirmed that 23-year-old Warburton will not need surgery on his finger and should be in line for a place in the starting XV for the Blues, who currently sit seventh in the RaboDirect PRO12 table.
A statement from the Welsh region said: "Following a check-up with Blues specialists, the Blues can confirm that Warburton won't require surgery on his finger.
"Having had the finger put back in its socket at Salford Royal Infirmary, Blues medical staff are now waiting for the finger joint to settle.
"However, it is expected that Sam will be fit to play against Toulon on Sunday."
In other good news centre Jamie Roberts, who is in his last year of his contract, appears unlikely to move to this weekend's opponents Toulon after the head coach Bernard Laporte distanced himself from the Wales international.
The British and Irish Lion has been linked with a move abroad for a while with the likes of Toulon and Toulouse said to be interested.
But this latest news follows the club's attempts to broker a deal for a possible dual contract agreement with the WRU that would help keep Roberts at the club.
