Weir was named in last season's RaboDirect PRO12 Dream Team and is regarded as one of the best fly-halves in the British game.
Here he tells us why he's nicknamed 'Meatball' and about his background in football before moving into rugby.
What are your nicknames?
Meatball. I think it's about my body shape, so I tried to rename it venison ball but it didn't catch on. It started last year because my dad always used to cook me meatballs and I told the other lads about how good they were.
If you weren't playing rugby what would you want to be?
I'd probably play football or do some rugby coaching, otherwise I would maybe work in the fire service. I played a wee bit of football at some SPL clubs - I trialled at Kilmarnock, Celtic, Aberdeen and Partick Thistle.
Who are your rugby heroes?
Jonny Wilkinson and Dan Carter. They are both fly-halves and have both had hugely successful careers - they have a great all-round game as well as their kicking.
Who has been your best ever roommate?
Henry Pyrgos. Whenever we room together we end up watching a good TV series or a film or two. We've recently been watching the hockey documentary 24/7 on Flyers/Rangers.
Who's your gym buddy?
The other half-backs, Ruaridh Jackson and Chris Cusiter. There is always a good atmosphere between us in the gym, but we're quite competitive too.
Which rugby player would you least like to meet down a dark alley?
Sébastien Chabal. He is a pretty big guy and looks like he would be pretty threatening down a dark alley.
What are your guilty 'diet' pleasures?
I enjoy a pizza. There are also a lot of ice cream shops with some nice selections in Glasgow that are quite famous.
What are your hobbies outside rugby?
I quite enjoy going to watch live football if I have the chance. I enjoy a game of golf and like dog-walking too - last month I got a Puggle, which is a cross between a Pug and a Beagle, called Douglas.
What newspaper do you read?
I don't really read any, but if I had to I would read the Scotsman. I sometimes get it just to see the rugby de-brief after we've played.
Who is your favourite rugby pundit?
Andrew Cotter. I think he's got some good little sayings, especially when he's commentating on a Scotland game because he's very passionate.
Do you have any superstitions?
Not really, but Pat MacArthur does this really funny smile when he's getting ready for a game. I think it's just him getting in the zone, but it's a pretty weird face he pulls.
