And the 25-year-old clearly enjoyed himself, helping himself to a try in a man-of-the-match performance despite being on the wrong end of a 24-15 scoreline.
But despite this confident start to life at Scotstoun since arriving from the Golden Lions, the back-rower admits he is still trying to find his feet in the northern hemisphere - literally.
"Obviously, it was going to be very different coming to Europe and getting used to the conditions and everything," Strauss told The Scotsman.
"I felt I struggled to get into the first game but got a bit better against Cardiff and then I was fairly happy with the last game.
"There is always room for improvement. I have to settle into the structures of the team. I still have work to do on the defensive structures and other things in the team's game-plan.
"South African fields are very dry and hard so the first game against Zebre took its toll on my calves with the heavy field but it is just a case of getting used to it and getting comfortable with the conditions. It is probably the same for somebody from Europe going to South Africa and playing on a really hard field; it is different muscles having to work and a different sort of fatigue. It is just something I have to get used to - quickly.
"I play rugby because I enjoy it. I really enjoyed the weekend's game. It was great conditions, clear skies, great temperature, the field was nice and firm so it was really enjoyable."
