Ryan first turned out for Munster eight years ago, recording 99 appearances to date, while also earning international honours for the first time in 2008.
That same year he helped the Irish province lift the Heineken Cup and has also tasted domestic success in 2009 while repeating the trick with Munster last season.
Ryan has made 17 appearances for Ireland - a tally that should grow particularly after being highlighted for his performance in the Six Nations win over Scotland last Saturday.
"I'd be lying if I said I didn't contemplate it [moving from Munster] but I'm glad now I didn't," said Ryan in an article with the Guardian.
"Obviously there were days when you'd be tearing your hair out that you didn't - and then there are days like today when you're starting for your country and I'm thrilled to bits."
