Standout performers included 22-year-old scrum-half Rhys Webb, who won the season's first RaboDirect PRO12 man-of-the-match award, and Dan Biggar who is the competition's leading scorer with 95 points.
But Jones, who was coach from 2003 through to 2008, believes the two-week break in the RaboDirect PRO12 came at just the wrong time for the Ospreys.
"They have had a great start with six wins out of six," said Jones. "Momentum and confidence is crucial and those have been the two biggest factors that have worked for them.
"They have got into a roll and will be confident they can beat anyone and I am sure they would have liked to keep the league games coming.
"The squad they have got is very competitive. They have got a good mix between internationals and some youngsters.
"With the high-profile players, they often bring a lot of work with them and you don't want too many distractions in the squad.
"They have done really well so far but they face some far tougher challenges in the weeks ahead."
