But having been offered the chance to sign with his home town club, Scott has taken to professional rugby seamlessly and made his mark by touching down against champions Munster in the Gunners' stunning 29-14 victory.
And while juggling studies and training is inevitably proving a challenge he insists the chance to travel around Europe with Edinburgh more than makes up for the long hours he has to put in.
Scott said: "I had the contract offer from Glasgow last summer but it just wouldn't have been possible to keep studying and train with them.
"When Edinburgh came in this year it made a lot more sense, I'm from here, and I'm able to carry on my law degree.
"I'm in my third year so there is a lot to fit in, but I'm managing it so far, and hopefully it will serve me well in the future.
"I'm loving playing for Edinburgh, and scoring a try against the defending champions was brilliant.
"Obviously the main thing is for the team to play well, and we still have some work to do, but I'm really enjoying the experience so far."
Scott earned rave reviews for his performances at fly-half with Currie in the Scottish Premiership Division One last season but has been shifted to outside centre by coach Michael Bradley.
But Scott revealed he is quite happy in his new position and is willing to play anywhere the coaches see fit.
He added: "I've played at fly-half all my life, and before arriving here I had never played in the centres.
"But I've been asked to play at centre and I'm playing any position. I don't know whether I will stay here long term because we have some guys coming back from the World Cup so that might make a difference.
"It's been the perfect time to start for me with the opportunity to play a few games and ease myself in. I feel quite comfortable in the squad now and it'll be good to have the internationals back with us once we start playing again."
