Wales urged to pick Brew

The Neath-born powerhouse has been firing on all cylinders in recent weeks and bagged his 15th try of the season against Edinburgh on Friday.

That saw him surpass Kevin Morgan's regional record for most tries in a season - 14 in the 2004-05 campaign.

Brew made his Wales comeback against Fiji in November following more than three years in the international wilderness, but the four-times capped Brew has been given the cold shoulder since.

But Dragons head coach Darren Edwards has urged Gatland to give the 24-year-old another chance to stake a claim for a World Cup spot.

"He had a great season last year and he's had another great one this year," said Edwards.

"He is improving year-on-year, so that demonstrates an ability for him to keep on pushing forward.

"I honestly believe Aled is one of the top two left wings in the country. His performances demonstrate that.

"He's been phenomenal this season. Aled is a flat-out left winger, with his try-scoring and the way he kicks down that touchline.

"His defensive work has also been outstanding this year, particularly his backfield one-one-one defensive work."

Edwards reckons Brew has thrived on being given more responsibility within the Dragons set-up and he insists Wales also need to invest.

"What we've tried to give him here is a role within the team. Keep giving him more and more responsibility and more chances to get involved in the game.

"He is certainly our most influential player. He's involved in kick-off receipts, chasing high balls and carrying.

"From a national point of view, it would be good to see him have the level of investment in terms of the facilities and resources they have available and see how far they can take him."

Brew has forged an almost telepathic understanding with Dragons fly-half Jason Tovey this season. And Tovey has no doubts that Brew should be recalled to the Welsh set-up.

"Obviously he was there in the autumn, but I think he should have been involved in the Six Nations," added Tovey.
"He's been one of the in-form wingers in Wales this year.

"He's scored a hell of a lot of tries and he's not too bad in defence either. He can hit people."

Brew will have another chance to impress Gatland in the Magners League Welsh derby on Friday night.
