Newport Gwent Dragons are facing an injury crisis after Luke Charteris broke-down during their bonus-point Magners League victory over Benetton Treviso.
The Men of Gwent are already without fellow second-rows Robert Sidoli and Scott Morgan, who have been ruled out for the remainder of the season with elbow injuries.
And they were dealt a further blow when their stand-in skipper failed to emerge from the changing rooms following the interval after damaging rib cartilage.
The towering Welsh international is now facing a race against time to prove his fitness ahead of the crunch derby with the Ospreys on April 15.
"Luke has a rib injury," said Dragons interim head coach Darren Edwards. "It's a concern for us.
"We don't know the extent of the injury at present, but hopefully it's not as bad as we think.
"It's a race against time, particularly with our second-row situation. It's not a healthy area for us at the moment, so it's a worry."
Martyn Thomas was also a casualty of the triumph. The news will be a bitter-blow for the promising full-back who had been sidelined for much of the season after suffering a multiple leg fracture last April.
