"We make no bones about the fact it hasn't been a good season for us, but with two home games coming up against Aironi and the Dragons followed by a trip to Treviso, we have the opportunity to finish the campaign off on a bit of a run," Cairns told the Scotsman.
"Hopefully that will set us up nicely for the summer - not just the guys who are looking to go to the World Cup, but also those who are coming back for pre season."
"Getting into the World Cup squad is definitely the ambition, and the first step of achieving that goal is playing well in the next three games to get in the extended training squad.
"We've done well in patches throughout the season, but against the Ospreys we put it together for the full 80.
"Our work-rate in defence was great in that game as well. When you all work as a collective it makes life a lot easier than when you as individuals.'
