The former England U21 prop will finish his playing career after Worcester Warriors' Championship Play-Off second leg with the Cornish Pirates this Wednesday.
"I know it's the right time for me to retire," said Black.
"It was always going to be a hard decision to make, especially when Worcester were keen for me to stay, but I've always said one of the main things I wanted to do was retire myself rather than be retired.
"A fantastic opportunity has come up to make something else for myself away from rugby and it is only right for me and my family that I take it."
Black, who ended a six-year association with the Magners League two seasons ago, entered the history books when he featured in the Dragons' clash with Cardiff Blues at the Arms Park on April 25 2007.
He beat a whole host of star names to the magic 100 mark in Magners League rugby, finishing his career with a total of 84 League starts and a further 26 appearances as a replacement for the Dragons, plus seven starts for Ebbw Vale in the second season of Celtic competition back in 2002/03.
Black scored 13 Magners League tries for the Dragons and left Rodney Parade as a fans favourite after compiling 163 appearances in all competitions for the Welsh side.
As far as the Magners League records are concerned, Black's place at the top of the appearance charts has been taken by Cardiff Blues lock Deniol Jones.
The Welsh international has featured in 133 games of Magners League rugby, six more than Connacht's Michael Swift.
Edinburgh duo Andy Kelly and Allan Jacobsen are next on the list with 123 and 122 games respectively, while Dragons second row Adam Jones has also appeared in 122 matches.
