And while Munster deserve great credit for winning an incredible 20 of their 23 league and Play-Off fixtures so far this term, Coughlan insists it will be a long old summer if they don't finish the year in style.
"I think after our performance in the league itself, where we ended up well clear, it's important for us to go on and win the trophy," said Coughlan, who has played 24 times in all competition this season.
"We owe that much to ourselves as a squad for the work that was put in when the internationals were away.
"But besides that it's a final, there's a trophy and a title on offer and that's what every side is judged on.
"No one will look back and remember who finished top of the league. It's whose name is on the trophy that counts."
Munster's opponents in the end-of-season showpiece know exactly what it feels like not to win the title having won the league.
Leinster finished last season as the top side after 18 regular matches but their dreams came to an end with Grand Final defeat to the Ospreys in Dublin on the final day of a grueling campaign.
