Reid becomes the latest outstanding club player to be given the opportunity to shine in the professional game, Melrose's talented stand-off and captain Scott Wight having signed for the Warriors yesterday fresh from leading the Greenyards outfit to a fantastic haul of trophies in season 2010/11.
Centre Troy Nathan, wing Tommy Seymour and tight-head prop Michael Cusack have all also been secured for the new campaign, while fans' favourites Graeme Morrison and DTH van der Merwe are among those to have agreed contract extensions.
Head coach Sean Lineen today welcomed the acquisition of Reid, citing the player's uncompromising attitude and appetite for self-improvement as key factors in the move.
Lineen confirmed: "We've had a good chance to get to know Gordon when he's been training with us, and there's no doubt that the necessary ability and desire are there for him to progress and do well for this club.
"He's impressed the coaches and the squad not only with the technical aspects of his game, which are all very sound, but with the determination that he has to keep improving as a player.
"That approach is going to stand him in very good stead as he finds his feet in the professional game, and we'll be giving him all the support he needs to hit the ground running and perform to the level we're confident he can reach."
Reid said: "I'm delighted to have been given this chance by Glasgow, and I'd like to thank Sean and the other coaches for the faith that they've shown in me. My task now is to work as hard as I possibly can to prove my worth and make the most of the opportunity."
Reid, who has played for Scotland at under-18, under-19, under-20 and Club XV level, pledges his future to the Warriors on the same day that one of the side's longest-serving players, Hefin O'Hare, announced that he is to take a step back from the professional game to pursue a new career with a chartered surveying company in the city.
The wing/centre, who has been a Glasgow player since season 2005/6, won plaudits for his unyielding style and professionalism, and featured on the international stage with Scotland A and Scotland 7s.
Lineen said: "Hef has been the heart and soul of the Glasgow team. Every time he turns up to train or play, he's been full on, and he's got a great physicality to his game. To have a man like that who expected high standards was fantastic for the club, and we'll miss him around the place."
