Biggar targets Magners League defence

The 21-year-old fly-half was left out of Wales' RBS 6 Nations squad after enduring a difficult autumn series.

But Biggar has flourished with the Ospreys and helped them record seven wins on the trot, in all competitions, without their international stars.

The Ospreys' winning run has included four victories in the Magners League and seen them surge to second in the league table.

A number of youngsters have grabbed the headlines for their mature performances in recent weeks and Biggar admits it has been a joy to play with such in-form players.

"I'm feeling confident. I'm feeling good at the minute," said Biggar.

"But the main thing is there are boys around me who are playing superbly well like Rhys Webb, Ashley Beck and Richard Fussell. These boys on top of a great set of forwards as well.

"Perhaps the confidence has come back but it certainly helps when you are playing with boys in such good form as well.

"A lot of the boys have gone into men rather than boys from the start of the few weeks

"Justin Tipuric has been superb again and I'm sure he will be knocking on the door for a World Cup place."

And Biggar has warned the returning Welsh stars that they have to earn their places back in the starting XV.

"It's really exciting for the future of the club and I'm sure the coaches are absolutely thrilled to have so many options when boys come back," added Biggar.

"Albeit how good these Wales boys are it's going to be pretty difficult for them to get back in the squad now."

Biggar makes no secret of his desire to win a return to Warren Gatland's squad ahead of the World Cup in September. But the six-cap fly-half insists he solely focussed on his region's Magners League defence.

"The way I'm looking at the minute is just playing game by game.

"The only thing that matters is getting to a semi-final and hopefully progressing to the final.

"If my form is good enough then things will take care of itself but obviously it's out of my control and I'm happy to play rugby week in, week out and go from there."

The Ospreys face Edinburgh at Murrayfield on Saturday before the Welsh derby against Cardiff Blues on April 2. And Biggar is determined to get off to a good start with a win against Edinburgh, pointing to the importance of securing a home play-off semi-final.

"The Blues and Munster are going to be very tough games at home, but our record at home is very good, so we will be looking to win those.

"But this weekend is vital for us. If we can win we put ourselves in a real good place for a home semi. That's important."
