The former Edinburgh Accies player has already made three Edinburgh appearances off the bench, debuting in the Magners League clash with Leinster at Murrayfield last September.
He has today put pen to paper on a two-year contract that will keep him at the capital club until at least the end of May 2013, following the lead of Tim Visser and Ross Ford who have both recently committed their long-term futures to Edinburgh.
Brown, who turns 21 on 31 March, told www.edinburghrugby.org: "I'm really pleased to have been given this great opportunity to keep progressing with Edinburgh, and I'm going to be doing everything I can to make a success of it.
"I've enjoyed the taste of Magners League rugby that I've experienced so far, and I'm desperate for more. I'm grateful to Scottish Rugby and both Accies and Currie for the role they've played in helping me get to this point, and thrilled that Edinburgh have shown faith in me."
The revamped Elite Development programme has seen Brown and eight other budding talents play a fully integrated role in the Edinburgh squad while receiving individual support from Bryan Easson, the club's Elite Development coach, and other specialist coaches.
A tenth player, Boroughmuir and Scotland under-20 stand-off/centre Harry Leonard, recently won a place on the programme and will rejoin the squad at the conclusion of the under-20 6 Nations Championship.
Easson confirmed: "It's fantastic that Tom has signed up for the next two years, and it's a chance he's really earned through what he's done as an Elite Development player.
"We've known about his ability for a long time, but what's been really pleasing to see first-hand is his attitude and desire to improve. All those things are going to stand him in good stead over the next couple of seasons, and I'm convinced he'll go from strength to strength with Edinburgh."
Nick Scrivener, the club's interim head coach, echoed Easson's comments, saying: "Tom's a guy we've got high hopes for and we're really pleased to have him signed. He's a gifted player who is already pushing hard for selection, and if he continues to show the same hunger, he'll have a lot to look forward to in the game."
Stephen Gemmell, Scottish Rugby's head of player development, said: "This is great news for Tom, and for the rest of the players involved in the Elite Development programme. It shows what can happen if you really step up and take advantage of the opportunities you're given as an Elite Development player.
"With the changes we've put in place this season, these guys are now training on a daily basis with the best professional players in Scotland, while also training and playing for their clubs.
"That gives them real scope to learn and improve: you only need to look at what Tom has taken from working alongside the likes of Chris Paterson and Jim Thompson and playing for Currie to see the benefit of this set-up.
"I'm delighted he's progressing so well, and look forward to seeing more Elite Development players follow his example."
