"To play for Wales once is a huge achievement and something I never though I would get to be honest," said Phillips, who made his International debut against Romania in 2003 in Wrexham.
"Growing up and watching Wales as a kid, you want to go out there and wear the red jersey and play for Wales, so to reach 50 is an immense achievement.
Looking at the record and other players who have reached the milestone, they are all great players and legends and by no means am I in their league but to reach 50 is fantastic."
Ryan Jones made his debut a year later in 2004 against South Africa and went onto captain Wales to a Grand Slam title in 2008 and he has spoken of his excitement ahead of the game.
"I am incredibly excited about this weekend, it is a fantastic achievement and I am really looking forward to it," he said.
"I remember making my debut back in 2004 like it was yesterday and reaching 50 caps is up there as one of my greatest memories and something I will always treasure."
