Jones has slipped down in the pecking order for both club and country behind Rhys Priestland but he gave a timely reminder of his talents.
In his 300th appearance for the region, the 33-year-old pulled the strings as the Scarlets equalled a record of eight games without defeat.
And with the Six Nations fast approaching, Jones knows he will have to redouble his efforts to force his way back into the international set-up.
He said: "You knuckle down, work hard on your game and you enjoy your rugby and get on with things.
"I've got no decision to make. I am going to keep on playing, it is as simple as that.
"I have a good relationship with the coaches and all I can do is keep my head down, work hard and enjoy it. That's all I will do."
Dan Biggar has taken second place in the fly-half pecking order after a superb start to the season with RaboDirect PRO12 leaders Ospreys.
And despite opting for the two younger No. 10s, Gatland is adamant that the door is not shut on Jones' career.
He said: "Stephen hasn't retired. Stephen is not selected.
"We know what Stephen can give us.
"This is a chance to give someone else an opportunity in the squad - and we all recognised how well Rhys Priestland played in the World Cup."
