But Welsh, who played for Ayr in the British & Irish Cup last weekend, is just happy to be back after being restricted to just 12 minutes for Glasgow this season with the ankle injury he suffered against Ulster in the season opener back in September.
He said: "I was happy with the way it went [for Ayr]. The bottom line is it's great to be back.
"I was jumping from one problem to another.
"It turned into an extremely frustrating situation but that's part and parcel of the game we love. It's not for the faint-hearted."
And after watching his teammates fail to repeat their RaboDirect PRO12 heroics at the RDS, where they downed Leinster in September, Welsh is determined to help the Warriors extend their unbeaten home run to four against Ulster.
He added: "They were beaten by a great team but in the second half we showed what we can do.
"The guys came back wounded - I could see it in their expressions.
"But we're all going out to make it right against Ulster. I always say it's club then country.
"Everyone wants to play for their nation but you won't get there if you're not performing at club level.
"It's up to me now to show what I can to in terms of getting back into the Scotland set-up but I do realise there is definitely more competition in the Warriors squad since I arrived here."
