But while he is set to get his chance internationally, Andrews has been forced to share the tighthead responsibilities at club level with Tonga's Tau Filise.
And Andrews revealed that Gatland has already had a word in his ear - informing him that he must make the Blues position his own if he wants to be a regular in the international set-up.
"It would be a help but we have another quality tighthead in Tau Filise. If I can prove myself with Wales that will help with the Blues," said Andrews.
"At the Blues it's very different. It's hard for them to play me week-in, week-out, like Warren Gatland (Wales coach) has asked. "The Blues look to pick their best XV on the day.
"But, if I can go well against Australia, it will put me in good stead back at the Blues as well."
