And after falling to a 25-19 defeat to Aironi last time out McInally will be hoping that his side have hit rock bottom and are about to hit an upswing.
However opponents Munster are on a magnificent run of 14 successive wins and McInally knows they have their work cut out to make an impression.
"It's hugely exciting for all the lads and a very good challenge for us, but it's one that we will rise to because it doesn't get much better than playing at home against the side that are top of the league," he said.
"Training has gone well and we have eradicated some of the errors that we displayed against Aironi so hopefully we are all set for a good performance against Munster.
"From a personal perspective it will be fun to play them because they are the team I made my debut against last year."
Since making his debut last year the 21-year-old McInally has gone on to shine, appearing in the longer and shorter forms of the game as part of Scotland's IRB Sevens World Series squad.
But the defeat to Aironi was his first appearance of the season for Edinburgh after a troublesome foot injury kept him out of contention for their opening three fixtures.
"Making my debut about a year ago against Munster was of course a great experience and a great occasion personally but not a good result for the team so we'll be looking to turn that around this Friday," he added.
"I feel I'm in a lot better shape now, I've had a good pre-season and put in a lot of gym work so hopefully that will start paying off this year.
"I played a bit of sevens towards the end of the season last year so I'm feeling a bit ahead in my development and am confident going into the game."
