Jones has been dealt a major blow in his hopes of starring for Warren Gatland's side after he aggravated a calf injury before their narrow 17-16 loss to defending champions South Africa.
And the 30-year-old has admitted that his face for full fitness will rule him out of at least their next game with Fiji.
But following Jonathan Thomas and Justin Tipuric's fine starts to the RaboDirect Pro12 season, the latter scoring a late try to help the Ospreys squeeze past Edinburgh in their last game, head coach Holley believes his players could yet have an influence in New Zealand.
"I have been in touch with Ryan," said Sean Holley. "He is pretty down because the news isn't that great but then they have given him every chance.
"In the tournament he can recover so it's not over yet though.
"We were probably resigned to losing them [Jonathan and Justin] both anyway in the first place. If they go, they go.
"Our back-row really compliment one another at the moment.
"Jonathan Thomas has been an outstanding ball carrier; Justin is very good all round the field linking up and the unsung hero is Tom Smith who smashes people in defence."
