Meanwhile Connacht have enjoyed their best start to the season in six years - defeating Treviso and Scarlets in successive weeks to sit fifth in the table.
But after pushing Ospreys all the way last weekend, Laidlaw believes Edinburgh's opening triumph will come sooner rather than later.
"We were not far off last weekend and we were making chances and that was the pleasing thing," he said.
"The mood has been ok, obviously we're disappointed to have lost the last two games and professional rugby is all about winning.
"Looking ahead to this week we need to pick ourselves up and make sure we turn up on Friday night and start with a big bang against Connacht and hope that we get a couple of tries on the board early doors."
Laidlaw signed a two-year deal to remain with Edinburgh in midweek and with former scrum-half Michael Bradley at the helm the 25-year-old claims he's finally starting to show his best form.
"I feel my game is now where I want it to be and you never want to rest on your laurels," he said.
"I've been quite happy with my own performances for the first two games but on the flip side of that I'd be happy to play a little bit worse if the team won.
"I think if I can keep playing well that will certainly help the team get the winning performances we are after, starting this weekend against Connacht.
"It will not be an easy game, they have started well and they have won their first two games."
