A fly-half by trade, the 20-year-old played twice for the Dragons last season against Ulster and the Blues in the No 15 shirt and will continue to deputise for the injured Martyn Thomas, while new signing Jamie Smith is also not deemed fit.
And Jones is desperate to make a mark for the Welsh side against a Munster side deprived of eight players going to the World Cup, as well as the injured David Wallace, BJ Botha and Felix Jones.
"The coaches have told us to back ourselves 100 per cent, so if I feel that I need to step in [to fly-half] at any time I will do," said Jones.
"I think we are a relaxed back three whoever plays.
"Darren has given us an open game. We can't just do what we want but we have freedom to have a look and try and create opportunities for the team.
"I just want to have a good start to the season and build on it week by week.
"It's good that the coaches have given me the opportunity so now I just want to have a good game and take it from there.
"We've all had a good pre-season and are confident ahead of Saturday.
"It's always hard againstMunster home or away but we are confident of a good performance."
