Eric Elwood's side returned to winning ways in the RaboDirect PRO12 for the first time since September with their 26-13 defeat of Edinburgh which followed hot on the heels of a 13-13 draw with Glasgow Warriors.
And Loughney believes that Connacht's improved results have coincided with a resurgent set piece.
"It was a good performance all-round (against Edinburgh), we had some good attacking phases alright, it's fair to say we've a few things to work on, a couple of areas in our defence, we were just a little bit lax at times," he said.
"It was great that just when they looked like they were going to push on that we came back again and got a score and then finished them off with a try at the end.
"The scrums last week (against Glasgow) were a bit of mixed bag, some good, some bad and we're constantly working to improve. We're changing a few things around so it was great to have dominance there.
"That's what we're looking to have every week, dominance in the scrum. Dan (McFarland) is doing great work with us there, a lot of technical stuff but it seems to be paying off on the pitch.
Loughney was also quick to pay tribute to the Sportsground faithful for their role in the defeat of Edinburgh and sticking with Connacht during their long winless streak.
He added: "The noise from the crowd is fantastic. It's an amazing thing that's started here this season, regardless when you're coming off, either as a replacement or at fulltime and whether we've won or lost it's amazing.
"The noise going through the tunnel is unbelievable. It's a great feeling and we're just so grateful to our supporters. I think it makes a massive difference to every part of the game when there's noise like that and it's brilliant to be getting great support and long may it last."
