Young delighted with record crowd

The final Welsh derby of 2010, between the Cardiff Blues and Ospreys drew an impressive 22,160 rugby fans to the stadium, setting a new Magners League record in Wales and the biggest ever rugby crowd at the Cardiff City Stadium.

Those who turned up were treated to a rollercoaster derby that saw the Blues end the year on a high with a 27-25 victory.

And Blues director of rugby Young was delighted to see supporters from across the region back the Blues and believes it shows the hunger for Magners League rugby in Wales is as strong as ever.

"It's great for Welsh rugby and the Magners League, it just shows how much interest there is," said Young.

"It shows how much respect the two teams have for each other. We knew it would be a cracking game and it was a real edge of your seat game.

"Moving here was always going to be a building process. People questioned whether we were right or wrong. But you don't buy new trousers that are too small.

"We have to grow into the stadium and games like this are a big help. The guys behind the scenes have done an excellent job.

"But we also have a job to do on the field. If we can keep winning, i'm sure the appetite will keep coming."

But the Blues still have a long way to go if they are to create a new record across the entire competition. The current Magners League record was set earlier this season, where 50,645 fans crammed into the Aviva Stadium to see Leinster beat Munster.
