Thomas enjoying run of games

27-cap Thomas has spent more than two and a half years in international wilderness after falling down the Welsh pecking order.

Matthew Rees, Richard Hibbard, Huw Bennett and Ken Owens are all ahead of him in the queue for the Welsh number two jersey.

But after establishing himself as the Blues' first choice number two, ahead of Gareth Williams, Thomas is keen to keep fighting for a Wales recall.

"Obviously I'm not really what Wales want in the position, which is fair enough," said Thomas.

"I'm getting older now and I'm man enough to take it if I'm not what they are looking for.

"Matthew Rees is doing well there at the top and he's captain, so what can you do really? It's a very competitive position. All the hookers at the regions are Welsh, except for Tom Willis.

"I'll just keep playing and just keep asking what I need to do to try and get in the squad. It's still an ambition for me, but I'm just going to keep my head down and concentrate on getting in the first team here and then see what happens after that.

"I've had a bit of a run of games for the Blues and to be playing is a nice feeling,I'd probably not had the opportunities before with Gareth there.

"When he was on fire last year and the season before he would have kept anybody in Wales out. It's just having the opportunity to play really.

"Because he's been injured, I've had a bit of a run of games. I'm feeling OK with my form. I am less weight-wise and I've trimmed up a little bit."

But the 28-year-old admits he still has plenty to work on although he would like to keep those cards close to his chest.

"In anyone's game, there are a few things you need to work on and I've been trying to work on those," added Thomas.

"There's just a few things which I'd rather keep to myself, because people will look to exploit the weaknesses I need to work on!

"You've just got to keep working away and keep your standards up. As soon as you think you are having a good run of form, you get hit on your backside."

Thomas will look to continue his fine form on February 11 when the Blues travel to Firhill Stadium to take on Glasgow Warriors in the Magners League.
