Beattie underwent shoulder surgery following Scotland's summer tour of Argentina having guided Glasgow to the inaugural Magners League Play-Offs last term.
The 25-year-old featured in 15 Magners League matches in 2009/10 but has played only once in the competition this season when he impressed against leaders Munster at Musgrave Park on January 8.
Beattie missed last Sunday's Heineken Cup win over Wasps after Glasgow were unable to add him to their European squad having already made the single permitted change when Dave McCall was added earlier in the campaign.
He instead featured for Scottish Premier 1 outfit Ayr in the British & Irish Cup and is expected to do the same again this weekend when Glasgow travel to the Dragons.
"We've seen Johnnie play two games so far and we're pleased with his attitude," said Scotland coach Andy Robinson.
"It's all about what happens in the next two games and we expect him to play against Ireland A next Friday.
"His ability to break the line and his dynamism as an eight, he showed that against Munster, and in the modern world where defences dominate, it's important you have that ability.
"Dealing with the squad on its merits, for the eight slot there is an opportunity to pick Johnnie and that's why he's in so quick. We'll see his performance in these games and we'll make a judgment after the A game.''
Beattie is joined in the international ranks by clubmates Jon Welsh and Robert Harley, both of whom are currently uncapped.
The pair have been hugely impressive for the Warriors this year, with prop Welsh and flanker Harley both appearing in all 12 of their team's Magners League fixtures.
Harley has been included ahead of Gloucester's Alasdair Strokosch, who has just returned from injury, with Robinson impressed with how the 20-year-old blindside has coped with the pressure of facing the big boys this term.
"Everyone's been pushing for Rob and rightly so, he's been outstanding in a tough position," added Robinson.
"His work rate has been good and he's been influential in games. He stood up against Toulouse and performed in Munster and when you have players like that they deserve an opportunity.''
As well as his 34-man Six Nations squad, Robinson has named 16 players for Scotland A's clash with the Ireland Wolfhounds on Friday, January 28, with a number of senior players also set to step down for that fixture.
