Fourth not good enough insists Young

The Blues are currently fourth in the league but Young maintains that is not good enough with the Welsh region facing a difficult run-in of games at the tail end of the season.

"I'm not happy with it," said Young.

"Fourth sounds good, but we've got a very difficult run-in. We've got three home games left and seven away.

"We have put ourselves under pressure with the two home games we have lost, against the Scarlets and Ulster. If you look at our run-in, things are probably stacked against us.

"We've said to the players that the Magners League has huge importance for us. We want to be at the business end of the season with something.

"It's important we finish in the top four of the Magners League and every league game now has added importance. Every game is a cup final for us."

The Blues edged to a 24-13 victory over Aironi Rugby at the Cardiff City Stadium on Friday night. Despite admitting the Italian franchise had improved since the two sides met earlier in the season, Young was disappointed with the Blues performance.

"They have certainly improved since we played them first time," added Young.

"They are not a very good team to watch, not a very exciting team, but a team that are probably more intent on stopping you playing than doing anything themselves.

"In saying that, we've got to be better. Our inaccuracies left us in our own half for long periods. We knew they would look to slow the game down, kick to the corners and pick-and-go round the rucks.

"The intention was to play the game in the right areas and once you get any field position to go through a number of phases. They are very strong for the first two phases, then they lost their shape a little bit.

"But our accuracy didn't allow us to get to them four or five phases, which was hugely frustrating. They kept the ball well, but they didn't move it more than one pass. It's very difficult to lose it when you do that.

"They are big, heavy, strong boys, but they never played any rugby. When they've got the ball, they really drag you down and it's very difficult to play.

"But I don't want to knock them, because the best teams get over that. The best teams play around that and we were far from a very good team out there."

The Blues travel to Glasgow in the next round of the Magners League on February 11 and face all three sides currently above them in their challenging league run-in.
