But their bonus-point win against the Blues last time out has got them back on track and Lineen has challenged those on their way back from New Zealand to prove their worth.
"It was explained to the players ahead of this group of games that it was about them making it really difficult for the World Cup guys to come back in and retake their places," he said.
"Against that, we also need them to create a positive, happy, winning atmosphere for the World Cup guys to return to.
"I've spoken to most of the guys coming back, they need a break after the World Cup because they've worked their backsides off. It didn't go according to plan for them, but they played some very good rugby.
"All the Glasgow players have next week off, but they'll all be available after the break. We'll look at the situation player by player, but we have planned for their reintegration. Hopefully, they can put their World Cup experiences to use here as well."
