The addition of the likes of De Luca, Ross Rennie, Allan Jacobsen and Chris Paterson could go a long way to solving the inconsistency that has plagued the Murrayfield outfit's start to the season.
But the 27-year-old De Luca insisted that, for the moment, he was just looking forward to getting back out on the pitch.
"It's been a tough couple of weeks of self reflection and team reflection but it's good to get back to the real world and now I'm just champing at the bit to get back and play some rugby," he said.
"We have been in a bubble for almost four months with the preparation and the tournament and obviously there's a lot of disappointment but you get home and see your family, the things that are important and you get over it, now we're all keen as mustard to get back.
"I'm looking forward to getting stuck back in but first of all I have to be selected, that's my priority because the centres have been playing well."
With only two wins from their first six RaboDirect PRO12 encounters, Michael Bradley's men will need to rediscover the kind of form that saw them defeat defending champions Munster on matchday three.
But things don't get any easier for the side from the Scottish capital when Heineken Cup champions Leinster come to town on Friday, but De Luca is relishing the chance to take on Europe's best.
"It's up to me to show my worth at training, Leinster are always great to play here, hopefully the weather will be nice and the teams can put on a great spectacle," he added.
"They won't know much about the team we are going to field in the same way that we don't know much about them but I think it's going to be a great game."
