And with two games in hand on second placed Leinster and one in hand on third-placed Scarlets, the Blues know a home semi-final is well within their grasp.
Traditionally, Firhil hasn't been a happy stomping ground for the Blues, with the Welsh capital outfit winning just one of six games in a row there since the region's inception in 2003. But a repeat of last term's comprehensive triumph in Scotland's second city would be a great way to return to Magners action for a Blues side who are looking forward to demonstrating their strength in depth.
"The last few seasons we'd gone up there with good preparation but hadn't come away with a win. But then last year, we beat them by 30 points to seven and that will give us great confidence going up there this weekend," said James.
"We're on a good run so, hopefully, with the youngsters coming in while all the internationals are away, that gives us an extra angle to do well. Hopefully, we win the next few games without our superstars.
"We've got a good backline at the weekend and the average age is pretty young. The boys coming in have just got to do their job and, if they do that, we can come away with a win.
The general consensus at the Blues seems to be that their league results have been been largely pleasing but that there remains plenty of room for improvement.
It's a view shared by James who believes the Blues have solid foundations in place and aren't too far away from producing the ultimate performance.
"Everything's going well in training. Everyone's training hard," added James.
"We're just not clicking as much. We're slow starters, then we click, then we step back of it. We've just got to keep going for the 80 minutes and then I think one of the teams we play over the next few weeks will get blown away, to be honest.
"This time last year we were nowhere near the top but then we won 13 out of 15 games in all competitions and we nearly got to the Play-Offs. Hopefully now we can kick on like we did last year and make the Play-Offs.
"Before people used to bring the Magners League down but I don't know why. Now that we have the Play-Offs, everyone has upped their game. It's a prize that everyone wants to win."
