And Smith's charges travel to the Parc des Sports Aguiléra this weekend hoping to shock their Pool Five rivals again, with both sides in contention to qualify for the knock-out rounds.
Smith is the first to admit the match in Biarritz is a more daunting task but the South African coach is prepared to play the conditions and plans to leave the Frenchmen stunned again.
"Obviously it will be a different with Biarritz at home, we know they will be a lot more aggressive at home," said Smith.
"The weather is going to be very windy with a lot of rain, it will be like playing a game at Connacht. Biarritz are going to be more physical and more disciplined.
"As the games are so close together we had to get straight back to work after the game.
"We have a lot of leaders and it's really important to have those guys out on the pitch. They have a big influence on the squad.
"The squad has matured a lot mentally and physically. We have grown, we know what the demands of each game are.
"There are satisfactions but we are not at our best level yet and there's still a lot to learn. We can improve a lot.
"The work we are doing in training can make us stronger but we know to keep our feet on the ground.
"We aren't ready to win the Heineken Cup and we have different ambitions to Biarritz.
"For the away games we want to be competitive, and against Biarritz we need to play the conditions announced. The pressure will be all on them to pick up the points."
