But after helping Melrose sneak past Aberavon 9-8 in the British & Irish Cup last Saturday while Edinburgh were in Heineken Cup action, Webster is hoping to have worked his way back into Michael Bradley's plans.
"The last two or three weeks have been good but I'm just looking for some game time for Edinburgh rather than for Melrose," he told the Scotsman.
"Obviously, I'm very grateful to get the games for those guys, they've been absolutely fantastic with me, but Edinburgh is the team I would rather be playing for.
"It's just a case of working hard and hopefully the coaches see that hard work and get me back in the team."
Edinburgh's run of four straight wins came to a halt in Cardiff with a 25-8 defeat to the Blues, with former Glasgow Warrior Dan Parks doing most of the damage with 20 points from the kicking tee.
But Webster believes his side can turn it around when the Blues come up to Murrayfield for the return fixture on Friday, the same ground where they kicked off their RaboDirect PRO12 campaign with a 38-14 win back in September.
He added: "In these Heineken Cup games there's not a lot between a lot of the teams. All the games over the weekend were relatively close, even the games where you thought one team would be favourites.
"We went down to match [the Blues] physically and I thought our attitude was good. "But when they have a guy like Dan Parks who kicks the points the way he did, it's difficult."
