Fly-half Greig Laidlaw did his best to steal the show, racking up 24 points with a try of his own, five penalties and two conversions and he was joined on the scoresheet by Tim Visser, Kyle Traynor and David Denton.
Edoardo Gori, Tommaso Benvenuti and Ludovico Nitoglia replied for the visitors but the result was rarely in doubt as Edinburgh finished the season on a high, albeit second from bottom.
And man of the match Paterson said: "It was nice to go out on a high. I suppose it is the end of an era with some other players and myself moving on, but that is professional rugby for you. You only ever borrow the jersey."
