Having returned in time for the World Cup, he was forced to watch from the sidelines as England emerged triumphant in the final group game and has since found playing time limited at Warriors.
Far from seeing it as a negative, Morrison believes the fight for places is just what he needs to rediscover his top form.
He told The Scotsman: "I'm not there yet I'm ashamed to say. I need a run of games to get back into the groove but we've got such a strong squad that it's hard to get into the team.
"Training is much more intense, it's a good feeling that we have such competition there. A couple of seasons ago it was almost harder to get out of the Glasgow team than get into it, but that's certainly not the case now.
"During pre-season I was coming back here from time to time and the work ethic was something I haven't seen before in the Glasgow squad.
"A lot of credit is due to both the players and the coaches who have made it a lot more professional because having the competition we now have means you can't relax and you have to push yourselves all the time."
