He tells us about his love of cooking and why Will Greenwood is the man he listens to most when talking about rugby.
What are your nicknames?
Unfortunately it's not particularly original but everyone calls me Jonesy. Obviously the rest of the team don't think too much outside the box when it comes to nicknames so I've been stuck with that.
If you weren't playing rugby what would you want to be?
I really enjoy cooking so I think I would want to be a chef. I'm quite interested in my food and with my housemate Gregor Hunter we do a lot of cooking. It tends to be about 50/50 in terms of who cooks and he gets to sample the delicacies. I'm really keen on Japanese food so that has quite a big bearing on what I cook.
Who are your rugby heroes?
I'd have to go with Garry Armstrong. I was a scrum-half growing up while he was Scotland's first choice and he's just a legend up here. I think I met him when I was playing minis rugby although I haven't met him since I became a professional. Obviously I haven't followed exactly in his footsteps by moving out to the wing.
Who has been your best ever roommate?
I'd say that James King is probably the best roommate to have. He's a great laugh and loves his practical jokes. The good thing about being in his room is that you usually aren't the one who he plays the joke on.
Who's your gym buddy?
This year it's been Alex Black who I have done most of my work with in the gym and on the weights. Nick De Luca gets involved as well and we push each other pretty hard.
Which rugby player would you least like to meet down a dark alley?
I think I'd probably have to go for a back row here. I can't really pick anyone in the RaboDirect PRO12 so I think I'll go with Sébastien Chabal. He's pretty intimidating on the pitch so I imagine he could do some damage.
What are your guilty 'diet' pleasures?
Luckily I'm not too into my chocolates so that isn't really a problem for me. I do like my bread and butter though so I have to be careful with that.
What are your hobbies outside rugby?
We've just bought ourselves a new Xbox for the house so that keeps us pretty entertained on a day off. I play a bit of golf as well. There are a few nice courses up the east coast so that tends to be where I head when I get the chance.
What newspaper do you read?
I usually tend to go for the Scotsman for the rugby although I try not to read anything about my own performances. If you are being criticised it can get to you and if you are playing well you can get carried away with it.
Who is your favourite rugby pundit?
Will Greenwood is the one I listen to the most when he is talking. He talks a lot of sense and is really enthusiastic about the game. He's obviously been there and done it so you have a lot of respect for his opinion.
Do you have any superstitions?
There is nothing that really stands out. I try not to rely on anything like that because you end up getting worried about something that is not really important.
