On his selection as captain, Cusiter said: "I'm really pleased that I've been asked to captain the team. It's a great honour and a lot of responsibility comes with the role.
"We made huge steps forward last season under Paul Thomson so I have big boots to fill but hopefully I can play my part in helping such an ambitious squad achieve its undoubted potential."
Cusiter was in action in the RBS 6 Nations Championship where he was part of Frank Hadden's rejuvenated Scotland team. Most notably, he marked the 18-12 Calcutta Cup victory over England by booting the ball out of the stadium in front of a sell-out crowd at Murrayfield on the final whistle.
Cusiter, 24, played in six games on the 2005 British & Irish Lions tour of New Zealand and came on as a substitute in the pre-departure Test against Argentina in Cardiff.
Commenting on his choice of captain, Reivers head coach Steve Bates added: "Chris is at that stage in his career where he is developing a real tactical awareness and I think it is the perfect time to get him involved in that area of the club.
"Chris is a furious competitor and will lead the team wholeheartedly from the front. There is no-one that trains harder and puts more into the game that Chris."
