Lawson, who represented Scotland U21 seven times in 2001 and 2002, has also represented Scotland U19 and Scottish Schools. This season he has acted as Edinburgh captain on two occasions.
Edinburgh assistant coach Phil Smith said: "We're very sorry to see Rory go but competition for the scrum half position at Edinburgh is tough so we're aware that by moving he may gain some more invaluable experience, especially working with Bryan Redpath."
