Denton played the sport to a provincial standard in his native Zimbabwe and dived at the opportunity to make a splash in another sporting discipline after reigniting his passion for the sport during the 2012 Olympic Games.
He said: "Water polo is like rugby in a number of ways - it can be a real tactical battle as well as a grueling physical challenge.
"At Edinburgh Rugby we regularly use swimming as a recovery and conditioning tool but our coaches also encourage cross training with other sports, like racquetball to engage our hand-eye coordination, so it was great to get some non-impact but aerobic action in the pool."
Warrender Baths in Marchmont once hosted international matches and was the home of Warrender water polo until March 2012, when the club moved to the newly refurbished Commonwealth Pool.
The club have produced Great Britain and Scotland internationalists over the years and play in the Scottish Water Polo League.
Great Britain were represented at London 2012, with the men's team taking part in a first Games in 56 years and the women a first ever.
Notable water polo players include Prince William, who represented Scottish Universities in 2004 while studying at St Andrews, Jamaican hip-hop star Sean Paul and Olympic cycling champion Jason Queally.
Teams of seven contest four eight-minute quarters filled with swimming, wrestling and treading water with players not allowed to touch the bottom and the side of the pool during play.
