Glasgow's head fitness coach, Gary Sherriff, said: "The players are being given some much needed respite as we reach the mid-way point in the league.
"It's important they get time to relax and recuperate during a long and hard season, but some of them will still have work to do during the five days."
Tickets are still available for the Boxing Day derby - priced at £15 for adults, £10 for concessions and £5 for under 18s - and can be purchased by calling the ticket hotline on 0131 346 5180 or by logging onto www.edinburghrugby.org.
Sherriff continued: "It's ironic how most people try to lose weight after Christmas, but for the players, they need to try and keep it on during a break such as this. It's important that they don't lose too much muscle mass so some have been instructed to fit a couple of gym sessions in, nothing too strenuous but it's important they keep on top of things.
"The two games against Edinburgh are absolutely crucial so the players need to have some time to recover in order to be in the best possible shape. It's a time for celebration with family and friends but it's hugely important that they keep focussed on preparations for the two derby matches."
Supporters are encouraged to arrive early for the Boxing Day derby clash to take advantage of the pre-match festivities around Murrayfield Stadium - featuring Murrayfield's new Big Screens.
Food and drink will be available throughout the stadium and Murrayfield's President's Suite in the West Stand is open to everyone (capacity restrictions apply). Also, the first 300 adult fans in the President's Suite will be entitled to free mince pies and mulled wine.
Traffic Police have also issued some important information regarding car parking around the stadium - log onto www.glasgowwarriors.org or www.edinburghrugby.org for more game and travel information.
