Commenting on Tommy's departure Ulster Rugby CEO, Michael Reid said "We wish Tommy much success in this new phase of his career, we would have hoped for Tommy to remain with us and trust he remembers the door is always open for a return". Michael Reid went on to say "While a player of Tommy's experience will be hard to replace it will give more regular opportunities for the fast emerging Mark McCrea and will allow us to bring other rising Academy stars into the Squad".
Ospreys Head Coach Lyn Jones welcomed the player to the Liberty Stadium, commenting: "We are delighted to be able to confirm the signing of Tommy Bowe, whose considerable talents will increase the options available to us behind the scrum. Although still only 23 years of age, he is a top quality player who has already enjoyed success with Ulster and has made an impact in international rugby. He has a very bright future in the game, and we're all delighted that this will be with the Ospreys. I'm sure that he will be prove to be just as popular at the Liberty Stadium as he is at Ravenhill.
"We have made considerable progress on the field this season and are currently looking forward to big matches in both the EDF and Heineken Cup's in March and April, but that doesn't mean that we can afford to become complacent if we are to achieve our aim of establishing ourselves amongst Europe's elite rugby outfits.
"We remain committed to developing the best young Welsh talent, and our record in doing so stands up to any scrutiny, as is seen through the make-up of the current Welsh squad. However, there will always be room for high quality additions to the squad that will enhance what we already have and I think this signing is a clear statement of intent from the Ospreys, that when players become available, where appropriate we will move swiftly to secure their signature."
