The 23-year old hooker today put pen to paper on a new deal that runs until the end of the 2009/10 season, making him the sixth player to commit himself to the region in recent months, following on from Shane Williams, Lee Byrne, Huw Bennett, Filo Tiatia and Ben Lewis.
Newport born Shervington is a graduate of the Ospreys successful Academy system, making his regional debut coming off the bench in a defeat at Ulster in September 2006. In total, he has made 13 Ospreys appearances to date, all bar one as a replacement, with the majority coming during the second half of this season. His one start in an Ospreys shirt was at Leinster in January 2007.
Speaking after signing his contract, Shervington said:
"I'm happy to have signed for another two years. It's clear that the Ospreys are going places and I can't think of any other team I'd rather be involved with. I'm obviously pleased to have the security of another couple of years as I look to build on the work I've done this season but I can't take anything for granted as I realise that it's going to be tough to nail down a regular place in the team with Huw Bennett and Richard Hibbard ahead of me.
"I can't wait for next season now that I've got a few more games under my belt. It's a long season, and I'd expect them to be away with Wales quite a bit so it's up to me to take the chances I do get to try and force my way into the reckoning."
Ospreys Coach Sean Holley added:
"I'm pleased that Ed has agreed to stay at the Ospreys. He has worked diligently over the last twelve months and this new contract is a just reward for his efforts. He is another player to have come through the ranks at the Ospreys having impressed at Academy level and is another example of a youngster who has taken the opportunities that we have offered him.
"The next couple of seasons will be very important for Ed, and we're looking forward to seeing how he reacts to the challenges that now lie ahead of him if he wants to establish himself in the Ospreys squad."
