But the flanker didn't aid the cause as he picked up a yellow card against Glasgow Warriors in his third game, while also sitting in the bin against Connacht and Harlequins in the Heineken Cup.
And despite seeing yellow again in his last RaboDirect PRO12 game against Italian rivals Benetton Treviso, Bergamasco insists he is looking to change his ways to try and lift Zebre off the foot of the table.
"It's true that at the start of the season I got a few yellow cards," he told www.panorama.it.
"I had to evaluate myself and the way I was being penalised. It's my style to remain positive and to use my experience, I need to think of Zebre.
"There is a good mix in the changing room, we are aware of how little time there is, and able to divide up the work.
"We are a squad born from controversy. It's not really to do with the players but we are paying the price. But we want to focus on the game."
