And that form has seen him rewarded by Andy Robinson with a place in the Scottish Six Nations squad.
Against Ireland De Luca pulled up injured in the warmup, handing Scott a place on the bench before fellow youngster Jones was knocked unconscious in the first half.
And while Scott could not save the Scots from a fourth defeat in as many games, he admits it was an honour to pull on the Scottish jersey.
He said: "It was mixed emotions. I'm really proud and honoured to be given the chance to earn my first cap. But also the circumstances involving Lee with a bad injury tainted it slightly and at the end of the day we lost the game.
"I'm here to win like everyone else, but I'm sure when I look back on it, it will be a special memory.
"I came over as 23rd man which means cover for anyone in the warmup. Unfortunately for Nick De Luca he hadn't fully recovered and he didn't pull through.
"So I was on the bench and then when Lee was injured that gave me the chance so I wasn't expecting to come away with a cap. I'm delighted.
"It's a tough one because we've played a lot of good rugby but it's about getting over that winning line. We need to find that winning formula but I'm sure we can get a positive result (against Italy)."
