From then until this season however, Evans has been riddled with injuries and has seen his international and RaboDirect PRO12 appearances severely restricted.
This term however he has been in fine form, featuring in eight RaboDirect PRO12 matches for the Ospreys, guiding the region to third place in the table.
The Ospreys are back in action on Friday when they travel to European champions Leinster looking nervously over their shoulders as fourth-placed Glasgow Warriors are just a point behind while Ulster, currently fifth, are two adrift.
But Evans is just relishing being injury-free once again.
"The nine wins from nine is a nice statistic, but it is more about the team effort than myself," Evans. "I have always said once I get a run of games I am a better player, a more confident player.
"I am just chuffed to bits that I have been able to have a run of games. I never got close to packing it in when I had the injuries.
"The main thing that makes me happy is playing rugby, and the times when I wasn't happy were because I wasn't playing rugby."
