The victory keeps the Scarlets in the hunt for a potential semi-final as they sit sixth, just a point off Glasgow in fourth.
And after missing out in the final game of last season, Rees is determined to not let lightning strike twice this year.
"It's great to come back to a local derby game like this and be part of a big match day for the regions," he said.
"The boys want to get back on the field for the Scarlets and for me personally having missed the first three Wales games, I'm just keen to get back playing and we all know how important the remaining games are for us.
"As captain, I want to see us get into the final stages - it was frustrating missing the play offs last season so narrowly, but we've put ourselves in a good position and need to build on this game.
"We have the ability and we are good enough on our day to get to the top, we missed at the last game last season, but we knew we had to get a solid defence which we've achieved this season and get our set piece working well.
"I think we've gone a long way to achieving that - but the test is results and Edinburgh away next week is no mean feat and Murrayfield is a tough place to go."
