After being selected to win his third cap against Ireland this Saturday, Lineen paid tribute to Hogg and his insatiable appetite for self-improvement.
"He lives, breathes and sleeps rugby, it's great to see," said Lineen.
"He takes rugby seriously but it's also his hobby and as a result he's the first man to criticise himself after a game.
"He looks at his own game but he also looks at its entirety - that asks questions of us as coaches because he wants to improve so much."
But when it comes to taking credit for Hogg's rapid rise from Glasgow academy player to senior international in the space of a year and a half, Lineen is a model of modesty.
He said: "Seeing these guys play well gives me all the satisfaction we want as coaches - that's where we get our joy."
