Glasgow set a new club best of six wins in a row after their 37-6 defeat of Newport Gwent Dragons as Tommy Seymour scored twice and Tom Ryder, Peter Murchie and Gordon Reid also got on the score-sheet.
The bonus-point win took Glasgow to third in the league, just four points behind league-leaders Ulster who have won every RaboDirect PRO12 season so far - a far cry away from losing their opening two fixtures.
And with the break for the autumn internationals now coming up Townsend is hopeful his side can pick up where they left off when they come back to face Heineken Cup winners Leinster in two and a half weeks time.
"Looking back at the start of the season when we lost our opening two games at Ulster and then at home to Scarlets, to have turned that around is quite an achievement," he told the Glasgow Evening Times.
"We are delighted to have made some club history and have taken our best-ever winning run and lifted the bar in that respect.
"On top of that, the Dragons really came out and had a go and I felt we took the sting out of them and, in the end, were totally dominant. To claim five tries against a team of their calibre is quite an achievement.
"But we know when we come back on November 23 we will have to lift things again."
